Born and raised in Ontario, James Gummerson has devoted the majority of his life to drawing and painting. For over twenty years, he has depicted the natural and rural landscapes of Canada. In 1999 he was nominated as one of the top 5 artists in Canada for the prestigious Ducks Unlimited artist of the year competition and speaks out regularly against environmental issues that face us today. He is also known for his illustration of the popular Children’s book “One Step at time” by Lori Craig about a young girl with a disability. He continues to travel throughout Canada and spends most of his time painting in and around the rural area of Hamilton and the Niagara Escarpment where he lives with his wife and 2 Children. More of his work can be seen at www.jamesgummerson.ca “To me subject matter is as important as atmosphere and expression. It is therefore my intent to really give a true Canadian feeling to my work and to help shape our culture and maybe even make it a little better while expressing my thoughts and feelings about this beautiful land. In this day and age of fast and easy convenience, many of us have forgotten the simple yet more essential things in life. It is not my intention to preach what is essential but rather give images of these simplistic moments that are all around us every day. For those who are willing to stop from the busy race, there are hidden treasures everywhere. These are the images I try to recreate.” James Gummerson
