After teenage work at the Woolwich Polytechnic School of Art family pressures led to a career outside the Arts with but 'hobby' practice. Early retirement enabled a year's "apprenticeship" with an established carver/sculptor and a subsequent move to Canada has broadened my field of interest and inspiration. I make images with a camera, with pastel and paint and with wood, clay and cold cast bronze ... and sometimes with some combination of those. The choice depends on the subject matter and the purpose. Beyond superficial appearance I try to show something to give the viewer a thought or two and a reaction of some kind ... if they also enjoy then that is a bonus for me. My work has been shown in juried exhibitions and in commercial and public galleries quite widely around Southern Ontario and Toronto (Ontario Society of Artists Annual Juried Show 3x in last 4 years with 3 different media), as well as at a wider level (national exhibition of "The Canadian Landscape" - Jamieson Gallery). I am pleased to show my work and receive comments at my website www.johnashbourne.com
